An exciting new opportunity has become available for an experienced Purchasing Manager to join the team at MK Test Systems. The successful applicant will be heading up a small purchasing team within our Operations department at an exciting time as we integrate an ERP into our business to drive our growth.

Purpose of the Purchasing Manager role:

Responsibility and accountability for the purchase of goods, materials and services to ensure that the company’s business needs are met, taking into account price, quality and delivery and to ensure continuity of supply. People and budget responsibility. Responsible for purchasing strategy, policy and processes.

Main duties:

  • Raising purchase orders to ensure the timely delivery of parts to support production schedules.
  • Evaluate cost data and identify cost saving opportunities. Quickly assimilate supplier and company processes to positively impact purchasing performance.
  • Manage supplier performance to ensure that quality, cost and delivery performance is maintained at high levels. In addition, provide enthusiasm and passion for driving continuous improvement in these metrics.
  • Use the company ERP system to manage parts availability to the scheduled demand, managing the impact of schedule changes.
  • Evaluate and negotiate terms and conditions. Where possible to MK terms of purchase.
  • Identify supplier risk and develop robust risk mitigation strategies where necessary.
  • Lead and promote good supplier relationships.
  • Carry out strategic stocking exercises, proposing additional stock levels and cost.
  • Provide purchasing/commercial input into cross-functional teams that effectively contribute to the company goals by applying a confident approach to teamwork.
  • Identify items on the critical path and report to project management.
  • Carry out supplier assessments and audit suppliers where required.
  • Identify risks to supply continuity and ensure they are acted upon to minimise the impact to production.
  • Work with suppliers to implement recovery plans where required.
  • Lead complex supplier situations (commercial, capacity, quality) which may have an impact on supply either short or long term.
  • Report procurement KPI’s and interrogate data to understand variances.
  • Problem solving skills to understand root causes and to prevent recurrence of supply related issues.
  • Experience of supplier capability & capacity with regards to manufacturing and supply.
  • Carry out any other task within scope and spirit of the job.

Secondary duties:

Work with production and engineering to understand make/buy decisions.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience

  • Previous working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems
  • CIPS qualification
  • Experience in managing/working within multi-disciplined teams
  • Computer literate with a good working knowledge of MS Packages
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and recommend improvements
  • Ability to procure based on value add and justify decision making
  • Excellent time management skills

Salary

£42k per annum
